1984 Green
Susan Green represented leadership, strength, commitment, and a general concern for the Charlotte community and that was why she was nominated in 1984. Green was the first woman in North Carolina to run for the United States Congress and she gathered almost half of the vote but lost in the runoff elections. The day after her loss Green was spotted out on the campaign trail supporting her former opponent. Green was a two-term Mecklenburg County Commissioner, vice-chair for the Taxation and Finance Steering Committee, vice-chair for the National Association of Counties and also on the N.C. Association of Counties. She served on the Legislative Goal Commission and was a member of Charlotte National Organization for Women, Charlotte Women’s Political caucus, and the Mecklenburg Young Democrats. Green was an instructor at North Carolina State University and Central Piedmont Community College. Green also held the positions of Business Manager of Charlotte Opera and Conciliator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and was involved with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Green devoted her career to helping women, children, and the elderly in the Charlotte community.
